How are the course credits determined at universities in Turkey?

Since 2011, European Credit Transfer System ECTS/ECTS system is legally used in determining course credits in all universities in Turkey. ECTS is a student-centered credit system based on the study load of the student. ECTS credits are based on competencies of the students in a course and are calculated according to study load of students to gain these competencies. Most universities in Turkey have adapted their own credit and grading systems to ECTS principles. Therefore, student-centered education in universities is of considerable importance.

What does accredited program mean? How many accredited programmes are available in Turkey?

A program with accreditation guarantees that targeted program outputs and program objectives have been reached. There are 529 accredited programmes in Turkey. These programs are included in YKS Higher Education Programs and Placement Guideline. Accredited programmes; are in the fields of Pharmacy, Science-Literature, Health Sciences, Architecture, Engineering, Psychology, Medicine, Veterinary And Educational Sciences.

How can I apply YÖS exam?

YÖS Exam applicants can perform exam applications on the website of universities that accept foreign students. YÖS applications usually start in February and March . Some universities accept YÖS applications until May .

What is Turkish Proficiency Exam (TYS)? Who can take this exam?

Turkish Proficiency Exam (TPE) is an exam developed by the Yunus Emre Institute for the purpose of assessing the language proficiency of individuals learning Turkish as a foreign or native language.
Those who learn Turkish as a foreign language, students who need to document Turkish language proficiency for admission and enrolling to universities in Turkey, candidate teachers who want to teach Turkish in various institutions abroad, translators who want to certify their Turkish Language proficiency, briefly anyone who wants to evaluate Turkish language proficiency can take TYS exam.

Why should I take Turkish Proficiency Exam?

Turkish proficiency exam is a test that measures and certifies your Turkish language skills. If you succeed in the “Turkish Proficiency Exam”, you may be exempt from the language preparatory class at universities in Turkey; In many job interviews, you can prove your Turkish knowledge without taking the language exams and use this as a document for your academic career objectives.

What is YÖS-University Entrance Exam for International Students? (The University Entrance Exam for International Students)

YÖS – University Entrance Exam for International Students – is a test made for international students to study in Turkey, as the name suggests. Some of State and Foundation Universities in Turkey are request YÖS scores of students for admission. These examinations can be made in Turkey , and organized in various centers abroad by some of our higher education institutions.
Universities that admit students with YÖS, announce quotas and YÖS exam results themselves.

Which Departments are you admitted with YÖS Exam?

International students can study in many areas such as medicine, engineering, architecture, law, guidance and psychological counseling, pharmacy, psychology, teaching, and education departments of State and Foundation universities which admit students with YÖS Scores.

Is it one of YÖS conditions to certify that we know Turkish?

Knowing Turkish or documenting that you know Turkish is not one of the conditions for entering the YÖS Exam.
Turkish levels of international students are evaluated within the framework of the conditions and documents determined by the university applied.

To get undergraduate education in Turkey, should we take equivalence for associate degree from abroad?

It is left to universities that courses of associate degree diploma will be accepted for transfer in the undergraduate program; no equivalence application is required.

Who can apply to YÖS exam?

International students are required to fulfill certain conditions in order to apply YÖS exam.
YÖS candidates must be in the senior year of high school or to be graduated;
•They should be Foreign Nationals
•Those who became Turkish Citizen after birth, and then had permission to leave Turkish citizenship (ie Blue Card holders)
•While having Foreign Nationality, gaining Turkish (TR) Citizenship; in other words Double Nationals.
•Citizens of Republic of Turkey and who have completed their education in a foreign country (These students must have studied the last three years abroad!)
•Students who have completed their training and education in Turkish schools in a foreign country
•Those who have Advanced General Education Certificate i.e., GCE AL (General Certificate of Education-Advanced Level) points.
•Completely foreign students who have high school education in Turkey

With Council of Higher Education Board, which countries have signed protocols between responsible institutions?

CoHE signs protocols for development of various collaborations in the field of higher education with Ministries or Related Institutions of many countries in charge of higher education. With these protocols which are very important in the scope of the internationalization of Turkish higher education system, cooperations are developing with increasing number of international students and academicians.
While protocols with 16 countries were signed in the period before Prof. Dr. M.A. Yekta Saraç started his duty on 11th November 2014, during the presidency of Prof. Dr. Yekta Saraç, in 4 years following November 2014, 46 protocols were signed with 34 countries. These countries are;
Albania, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Burundi, Algeria, Djibouti, Chad, Morocco, Philippines, Palestine, Gambia, South Sudan, Iraq, Iran, Qatar, Korea, Kosovo, Macedonia, Malaysia, Malaysia Kelantan Province, Niger, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Romania, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Taiwan, Tunisia, Uganda, Ukraine, Zambia

Which sections does Turkish Proficiency Exam consists of?

Turkish Proficiency Exam consists of “reading, listening, writing and speaking ” sections.
Turkish Proficiency Exam (TYS) takes place in three sessions. Candidates answer reading and listening questions in the 1st session, writing questions in the 2nd session; Independent speaking and conversation questions in the 3rd session.

What is equivalence?

It is the determination of equivalence of associate degree, undergraduate and master’s diplomas obtained from overseas higher education institutions and programs to associate degree, Bachelor’s and master’s degrees awarded by higher education institutions in Turkey in terms of achievements in related education level.

What is a Diploma Equivalence Certificate?

It is the document showing the equivalent academic degree and area of qualification obtained abroad in Turkish higher education system.
